Floating Treatment Wetland Case Studies
Nutrient Removal with Passive Floating Treatment Wetlands
This case study demonstrates the capabilities of Floating Island International’s patented floating treatment wetland (FTW) technology to clean water by substantially reducing nutrient levels. Constructed of post‐consumer polymer fibers and vegetated with native plants, FTWs mimic the ability of natural wetlands to clean water by bringing a “concentrated wetland effect” to waterways. Over 4,800 FTWs have been installed worldwide over the past decade.
Algae Removal and Wildlife Habitat Using Floating Treatment Wetland Technology
This case study summarizes results of Floating Island International’s patented floating treatment wetland (FTW) technology to mitigate runoff from rural developments. Constructed of post‐consumer polymer fibers and vegetated with native plants, FTWs mimic the ability of natural wetlands to clean water by bringing a “concentrated wetland effect” to these ponds and restored wetlands. The Lake County Stormwater Management Commission named this project “Best Management Practice (BMP) Project of the Year”.
Wave Mitigation Using Floating Island Technology
Floating Treatment Wetlands (FTWs) or BioHaven® floating islands have been proven to dampen wave energy in both deep water and shoreline settings. Thus, they represent a powerful new tool to protect levees, valuable shorelines or other erosion‐sensitive areas. FTWs from Floating Island International Inc. (FII) are constructed of postconsumer plastic fibers and typically vegetated with native plants, and are available in a variety of sizes and shapes.
